Buckwalter Traditional Farmer's Market

The Buckwalter Traditional Farmer's Market in Bluffton is looking for a few good men & women. CES in partnership with the Buckwalter Place development team have started a market every Tuesday from 4 - 7 p.m.  We've been going a month now and average between 500 - 600 regional consumers a week. We need volunteers for market management, parking coordination, and long-range planning. We are going to have a strong educational component with area middle schools and would like to start a demonstration vegetable garden for the kids to observe and even help with as time goes on.

Call Larry Hughes at 836-3134 if you would like to be involved in this worthy project.

Helping the Planet/ Recycling Water

Okatie Elementary School has paired up with Callawassie Garden Club and Laura Lee Rose of Clemson Extension Service to use water runoff from the school roof as the way to keep the “Monet Garden” beds properly moist.

The rain barrel, donated by Laura Lee Rose was installed this week at the school- just in time to recycle the water for Earth Day!

Mrs. Julie Ann Aaron’s second grade boys worked with the Callawassie volunteers planting flowers, making hanging baskets, weeding, mulching the beds and pruning shrubs.

This hands-on approach has been a joyful time for the boys now that they can see how beautiful the gardens are growing.

With the continued efforts of our wonderful Callawassie volunteers, and generous donations such as the rain barrel from Laura Lee Rose, Okatie students have become an active part of saving our planet.

Beaufort Buffer Garden Work Day
Beaufort County Government Complex, Beaufort

Our Buffer Garden workday is scheduled at the Government Center at Ribaut Road and Highway 21 in Beaufort.

This will be a clearing, pruning, lopping and weeding workday, so bring your favorite tools, and don't forget your gloves. We could seriously use someone with a strong weed whacker and a small chain saw. Wear appropriate footwear. The fire ants are out in full force.

We are so appreciative of those volunteers who show up every workday, but we really need more hands. It's only three hours, and you'll get to know and exchange ideas with your fellow gardeners. We hope to see you there!
