Lowcountry Master Gardener Projects
“Learn, Teach, Grow”
LMGA Master Gardeners and Interns are committed to fostering community enrichment, knowledge and enhancement in the areas of horticulture and environment. Through community projects, trained volunteers use and expand their knowledge and share that knowledge with other county residents. We partner with city and county governments and non-profit organizations for the beautification and preservation of our community in the following areas:
- Create and maintain demonstration gardens
- Design and maintain community and school landscapes
- Conduct school gardening programs
- Make home gardening visits
- Plan and complete community beautification projects
- Present lectures or demonstrations to groups interested in horticulture

To find out about current projects, click on the following links: Hilton Head, Bluffton, Beaufort, and Jasper. Projects are organized by location for ease of management.
We encourage you to participate in any project that interests you regardless of the location.
If you have an idea for a new LMGA Project, simply fill out the Project Application Form. All applications will be reviewed to determine if the proposed project is within the scope of the LMGA. Criteria for selection include: 1) Meets the goals and objectives of the LMGA Mission Statement, 2) Provides educational opportunity for LMGA members and the community, 3) Teaches good practices and protects the environment, 4) Takes place in a public venue, and 5) Provides a fun and rewarding experience to all involved.
The applications must be complete in order to be reviewed by the committee. The applicant will be notified if the project is accepted or rejected. If accepted, a site review with the contact person will be scheduled in a timely manner. Please note that it is not the intent of approved projects to use the members of the LMGA as a "labor force" but in most cases as an advisory board. Also, the financial responsibility of the project falls upon the applicant as well as the ongoing maintenance of the project upon completion.
